I encountered the realities of the hospitality sector:
Every person living in society, whether in terms of doing a job, studying, or staying with their family, have some learning which they take with them. These learnings come when you accept the environment you are living in and understand the people around you.
While we are growing up at each and every step of our life cycle, somewhere has given us ways to deal with people; those ways could be different for every person depending on the situation they have faced before.
When we were in school we learned something different that we could use in college, while in college what we knew we could apply in a job, and after a job what we know we can apply in life so it is a continuous life cycle.
School provided us with basic tangents for studies and relationship building. College thought us advanced-level studying with relationship management within the close circle. When you are in any job position you will be using a combination of all of these.
Like everyone has some life learning experience which they realize when they leave that environment or stay in that environment, I had the same learning experiences that I had working in the hospitality industry
Staying there I realized the world which looks fancy and welcoming to others is different for people who are giving that world, and at the same time a lot of patience which no other place can give me.
When a person comes and experiences those smiling and happy faces while coming first time at the first point of interaction, it becomes very important to make that person feel comfortable following the culture of Atithi Devo-bhava but those faces have to hide the entire stress and issues while doing a standing job for more than 9 hours. The hotel industry focuses so much of our attention on sustainable hospitality, but rarely do we focus on sustainability in terms of our people
But at the same time I learned cooperation skills, hardworking and patience skills which any other industry can not teach as much as this industry tries to give you because you do stand and work for 9 hours or more without showcasing your emotions and giving priority to your customer. While you interact with people working there, you understand the behavior patterns of different people and give them a way to handle different types of situations in life.
This is one of the service industries like other industries more inclined towards empathy rather than sympathy. I also learned to behave with people, which is sometimes a great thing to learn and behave and at times challenging to manage work-life balance.
As all these things you do in your life stay with you and these things you take for future, I would take all these learning experiences in my life and understand more about people…….
